Distant Shores

The Sailing Adventure TV Series

Sailing Videos from Distant Shores

These are some of our favourite sailing destinations. If you are planning a sailing cruise there should be something here to whet your appetite and help you plan your sailing adventure. We have a few "how-to" samples as well.

Voyage to New York
Traveling the Erie Canal and Hudson River to New York City. Distant Shores traveled up the Oswego Canal then into the Erie Canal. Then we put the mast back up and spent 2 days coming down the Hudson River to Arrive at New York City. Exciting!!

Bahamas Dream Sailing

Here is a fun video with a LOT of gorgeous Bahamas blue water sailing. Plus some great underwater shots! (note: this is all set to music - no narration)
France Seine River to Paris
Did you know you can bring a sailboat up the Seine River right into Paris? This video shows the lovely Seine River Valley and the arrival into Paris - wow were we excited!

Anchoring Scope for safe anchoring
Determining how much anchor rode to put out in different situations. This is a segment from "Let's Go Cruising - Anchoring".

Mid-Atlantic Sailing
Over 1000 miles from land! We have been at sea for a week and a half and still have a week to go to reach the Caribbean. Join us on this transatlantic passage. This is an excerpt from Season 5 of Distant Shores (filmed in 2007). For more info on the boat click here.

Sailing Bahamas - 2009 Version
Overview on the Bahamas sailing scene. Why we love the Bahamas so much!

Beaching a Southerly 42
How to beach your boat! This was one of our first times to deliberately beach our Southerly 42 in the Bahamas.

French Canals by Sailboat
We took our 49 foot sailboat across France via the Seine, Paris and the small canals in spring/summer 2012. This is an excerpt of that trip showing taking the boat into the small locks - just a few inches wider than "Distant Shores II"

Mediterranean Mooring - How-To
Sailing in the Greek Islands we demonstrate the process of tying up stern to the dock. This is a common practice in Greek harbours and involves setting your anchor down and then backing up to the dock. Trickier than it sounds!!

Feathering Propellor
Here's a look at the Variprop feathering propellor. We had this prop on Distant Shores 1. It reduces drag under sail but still produces full power when motoring. Since it is a 4 bladed prop it produces the most thrust in the aperture we have between the skeg and the hull of our Southerly 42.
Excellent quality of production and the true feeling of being out there. This should be required viewing. The Shards rock!

Sail Magazine
My Husband and I are fairly new to watching Distant Shores, and I'm proud to say we binge watch our new favorite show. We repeat episodes often because there's so much to enjoy in each and every episode. We are always finding something new and interesting to talk about every time we watch. Great locations, wonderful interactions with the local folks, and so informative. We look forward to watching!

It's because of your first season that we took off to go sailing and meet new people. 45k miles later, we're more indebted to you than ever. Thank you!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Binge Watching Distant Shores! I might have a problem. You can't stop making shows or I won't know what to do with myself. :0)
